New Gelande Triple Chair and Trail Network
We are thrilled to announce some significant developments happening at the mountain this summer! We will be embarking on a major project to enhance our winter ski and ride experience by constructing the Gelande chairlift and trail network. This addition will greatly improve our guests’ experience by creating a new way to access the top of the mountain without requiring access through the Columbine or Village base areas while adding to the advanced and expert terrain offered on the frontside of the mountain.
The construction of this new fixed grip triple chairlift manufactured by Skytrac and development of a network of up to five (5) new trails and trail connectors will be a substantial undertaking, requiring significant resources and manpower. We are in the process of creating two new groups of approximately 12-15 year-round employees, many of which are current, winter seasonal employees, to join our team and assist with this project. These new team members will be instrumental in bringing this exciting project to life this summer and will continue to help us upgrade existing lifts and trails and build new lifts and trails utilizing in-house human resources each summer into the future.
In order to prioritize the ski lift and trail construction in our effort to “give people the freedom to ski,” and at the same time ensure the safety of our guests, homeowners and employees throughout the summer and fall, the Purgatory Bike Park will be taking a sabbatical this season. This temporary closure will allow us to focus our efforts and resources on the construction project. We understand this may be disappointing for our avid mountain bikers, and we appreciate your understanding.
Although the Purgatory Bike Park will be closed, we will not be idle when it comes to our bike trails. We will be taking this time to continue improving and maintaining our existing trails, ensuring they are in top condition for when the park reopens. We are committed to providing an even better mountain biking experience in the future.
We are excited to be in position to grow and develop our year-round team of employees. These positions will play a crucial role in the ski lift construction and ski trail development. It will also give us the opportunity to provide year-round, benefited positions to some of our key winter seasonal employees and build a stronger, more knowledgeable and experienced team.
We understand that the temporary closure of the Mountain Bike Park may be an adjustment, but we are confident that the long-term benefits of the new Gelande chairlift and ski terrain will be well worth it. We appreciate your patience and support as we work to enhance our mountain experience for everyone. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Purgatory Bike Park when it reopens.
