International Applicants
Purgatory Resort is proud to employ non US citizens through the J1 Visa Work and Travel Program. We are also happy to consider TN Visa Applicants. At this time those are the only Visas we work with and we cannot employ those with the Australia/New Zealand Work Travel Pilot Program, J1 Trainee or Intern Visa Program, or H2B visa holders.
If you already have a Green Card and are eligible to work in the United States, feel free to apply on our job board like all other candidates. At this time we cannot sponsor those who do not yet have a Green Card.
J1 Visa Work and Travel Program
Winter
Our winter season generally lasts from mid November to the end of March. J1 Participants would be expected to work for the duration of the season. All J1 positions generally require strong English language skills, willingness to learn something new, ability to live and work in cold weather, and an open mind!
First Time Purgatory J1 Participants: We partner with GeoVisions for first time participants at Purgatory Resort. We generally do not hire first time participants through independent placement.
Returning J1 Participants: If you’ve worked at Purgatory Resort before, you can either work with your sponsor again or do independent placement through CIEE or CCUSA.
Applying for jobs: Please don’t apply for a position on our website. First time participants will work directly with their sponsor for a placement, and rehires will be in contact with their HR Representative directly about their placement.
Summer
At this time we are not hiring J1 Participants for our summer seasons, June through October.
Notes for J1 Visa Candidates
US Visa Approval: J1 Visas are limited and are issues on a first come first serve basis. We recommend beginning this process as early as March for the following winter. Visas are issued through your sponsor, not through Purgatory Resort. Even if an offer has been made from Purgatory Resort, you should refrain from making any travel arrangements until your sponsor has issued your Visa.
Travel Arrangements: We strongly recommend that you not make any reservations that are non-refundable. Timing of Visa approvals is beyond the control of Purgatory Resort. You should carefully weigh the financial implications to you that may result from visa delays and plan accordingly. If offered a placement at Purgatory Resort, your HR Representative will outline specific days to arrive in Durango that align with your job requirements. Please refrain from making travel arrangements until you get those dates.
Working in Durango: While in Durango you must be prepared to be self-sufficient. We recommend coming with money saved so you can support yourself before your first paycheck is issued. Be prepared that the cost of common goods, like groceries, may differ here than where you are.
TN Visa Applicants
All TN Visa applicants from Mexico or Canada will be considered through Alliance Abroad. Please contact them first they will help you apply for a position with us, please don’t apply on our website first.
